Maria Longworth Nichols founded Rookwood Pottery in 1880. This rare, uniquely shaped, vase is an example of her work. The blue and swirled brown landscape provide a background for spiders and bats. Her work was signed, MLN, and those initials appear on the bottom of this piece. The interior is done in a mustard color. This piece has, "Rookwood," impressed in the bottom along with the year, 1882. It measures 6 1/2 inches high to the top of the ball finial. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs, just age appropriate crazin. |
