I believe the official title of this C.F.W. Mielatz colored etching is, "Spingler-Van-Beuren-Fourteenth Street Looking West." Mielatz, born in Germany, studied art at the Chicago School of Design. While working on surveying expeditions, he learned to etch in order to create maps and plans. Etching became popular in the 1880's and Mielatz was comfortable with doing landscapes, citycapes and historical scenes. He was one of the first to experiment with color etchings. This is a fine example of an etching in color. His name is inscribed in the lower right hand corner along with the date, 1904. There is no pencil signature. It has been newly framed. It measures 12 inches X 15 inches.
