This outstanding figurine was made by Kister Schibe-Alsbach, Germany ca. 1970. It is after the famous painting by Jacques-Louis David, a French painter (1748-1825). The painting is the first of five painted by David. David changed the sure-footed mule on which Bonaparte crossed the alps into a dashing charger. He wore the uniform he wore at the Battle of Marengo. The figurine is a wonderfully detailed depiction of Bonaparte. Colors are vibrant. Features are precise. The hand was made from an antique mold and was made separately from the rest of the piece. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs. The figurine measures 12 1/2 inches high, 8 1/4 inches wide and 5 inches deep. |
