Q1-BLST03
Blackinton Sterling + Cut Glass Perfume Vial This lovely cut glass perfume vial has a sterling top. A repousse pattern encircles a single amethyst colored stone. The torpedo shaped vial is cut. Original stopper. This is a late Victorian piece that has the R. Blackinton & Co. trademark - a horizontal sword with a B and the number 8220. This has been carefully examined and there may be one or two very minor flakes but we really did not find any. Just adding this disclaimer in case we missed one. It measures 4 inches long.

X15-1019
Rare Victorian Era Mourning, Two Scenes Following the death of Albert, Queen Victoria went into an extended mourning period. Following her lead, the British Empire considered periods of mourning the social rule of the day. This fan, made of paper with mother of pearl incised end guard sticks and pierced ivory fan sticks, is an example of the types of things that grew out of the obsession with solemnity. This fan has front and reverse scenes. On one side we see the family gathering to remember the deceased whose oval portrait is being held. The family estate can be seen in the background. The reverse side shows the bereaved clutching the portrait while she sleeps and others attend to her and silence the onlookers by putting a finger to the lips. The fans' colors are in the traditional dark blues, greens, and blacks. The condition is fair with some splitting of the paper on the folds. The scenes are totally visible and none of the tears detract from getting the whole picture. The condition of the fan was taken into consideration when deciding on a reserve price.
