K2-0624

Six Walter Appleton Clark Prints, 1903 Walter Appleton Clark lived from 1876-1906. His career, as an artist, was brief but notable. He began his studies at The Arts Student League. There, his work was recognized by Scribners and he was commissioned to illustrate a book being published by Rudyard Kipling. He did many illustrations for Scribners and, eventually, for Harpers and Colliers. This is a set of six prints from original drawings in wash by this competent artist. Each captures another aspect of everyday life with serenity and realism. The prints are mounted on black matte board and are in mint condition. Charles Scribner published the set in 1903, three years prior to the artist's untimely death. Each measures 21" X 14" in entirety. A wonderful collectible from an artist who showed great style and promise. The set comes with its original box.

P2-CMECH3

New York Cityscape Mielatz Color Etching I believe the official title of this C.F.W. Mielatz colored etching is, "Spingler-Van-Beuren-Fourteenth Street Looking West." Mielatz, born in Germany, studied art at the Chicago School of Design. While working on surveying expeditions, he learned to etch in order to create maps and plans. Etching became popular in the 1880's and Mielatz was comfortable with doing landscapes, citycapes and historical scenes. He was one of the first to experiment with color etchings. This is a fine example of an etching in color. His name is inscribed in the lower right hand corner along with the date, 1904. There is no pencil signature. It has been newly framed. It measures 12 inches X 15 inches.

Q1-021705

Japanese Vintage Woodblock Print, Rakutei This artist signed miniature woodblock print is known as, "Moon under a Bridge." It features an early evening skyline with a bridge and three figures silhouetted against a moonlit sky. Two of the figures carry lanterns over their shoulders. The third crosses the bridge in the opposite direction. The moon peers out from under the bridge - its reflection seen on the water. This Japanese print measures approximately 4" by 3". It is very serene. The artist signature on the mounting is done in pencil and reads, "Rakutei." No tears. Excellent condition.
