AC-032009

Cobalt Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Remmey This presentation pitcher has cobalt incised decoration in a foliate and tulip design. A raised decorative band encircles the neck and there are two rows of beading around the neck. The name, "A.S.Smith," is engraved on the front along with the date, 1906. The pitcher measures 10 1/2 inches high. The Remmey family is well known for its pottery factories in New York, Baltimore, and Philadelphia. We believe this to be from the Philadelphia pottery which was established by Richard C. Remmey and carried on by his sons following his death. The body of the pitcher is in excellent condition. There is a spout chip and some rim chips. (should be visible in the photos) This is a great example of fine decorated stoneware from a famous maker's factory.
